Taxi license

Taxi license

Providing taxi services in Poland requires a special permit document – taxi license (licencja na taksówkę).

The presence of such a license confirms that the driver and their vehicle meet the established standards and requirements, and the client is guaranteed quality and safe service.

Foreigners should remember: it is not allowed to simply arrive in Poland from another country and “drive a taxi” around the city with your own car to earn a few hundred zlotys. The only thing you might “earn” this way is a fine ranging from 2,000 to 12,000 zlotys. The amount is significant, as you can agree. However, there is good news: foreigners have no restrictions on engaging in this activity if they have a taxi driver license.

How to obtain a taxi driver license?Let’s go through everything step by step…

First, it is important to note that providing taxi services is one type of business activity. Therefore, the license can be obtained by either individual entrepreneurs or legal entities.

A taxi license grants the right exclusively for domestic passenger transportation by car. This means the service’s geographical area is limited to the boundaries of the municipality or several municipalities with which a relevant agreement has been made.

The process of obtaining a taxi license can be conditionally divided into four stages:

  1. Document collection and payment of the license fee.
  2. Submission of the application.
  3. Review of the application by the government agency and decision making.
  4. Issuance of the license.
  • Age from 18 years.
  • Category “B” driver’s license.
  1. Document confirming the right of ownership of the vehicle or the right to use it.
  2. Vehicle registration document.
  3. Certificate of no criminal record.
  4. Certificate confirming the absence of contraindications to work as a driver based on physical and mental health.
  5. Certificate confirming the absence of restrictions on entrepreneurial activities in the transportation sector.
  6. Declaration of compliance with the “good reputation” criteria.
  7. Receipt for payment of the licensing fee.
  8. Power of attorney (if necessary) and receipt for payment of stamp duty.
  • If the foreigner has been in Poland for less than 6 months, they need to provide a certificate of no criminal record from their country of origin with a sworn translation.
  • After 6 months of residence, it is mandatory to replace the national driver’s license with a Polish one.
