On December 31, 2023, the law “On the Special Procedure for the Operation of Transport and Maritime Economy in Connection with the Armed Conflict on the Territory of Ukraine” will expire, according to which Ukrainians could use their Ukrainian driver’s licenses from February 24, 2022, to December 31, 2023, without the need to exchange them for Polish driving licenses, or even use Ukrainian driver’s documents whose validity had expired. However, starting January 1, 2024, changes will take effect, and Ukrainians will be required to exchange their driver’s license for a Polish one, as per Polish legislation, which stipulates that any person residing in Poland for more than 185 days from the start of their permanent or temporary stay is required to exchange their driver’s license for a Polish one.

The driver’s license is issued within 1 to 2 months. During this period, the Ukrainian driver’s license remains with its owner. Only upon receiving the new Polish document, the old Ukrainian driver’s license will be taken from the driver. It is worth noting that the new Polish driver’s license will be issued for the same period as the Ukrainian one, but with the maximum possible validity period of up to 15 years.
